New workshop coming to Shepshed – The Antenatal Breastfeeding Workshop for Expectant Parents is coming to Shepshed early January 2015. These workshops will be held bi-monthly on the third Wednesday of the month, starting 21st January 2015. For more information or to book a place please phone the Charnwood BRAS phone on 07583041054.

New BRAS – We are currently training new peer supporters to join our group of volunteers.

October is breast cancer awareness month but most women don’t know that one of the biggest risk factors in developing cancer of the breast is whether or not they breastfeed their babies and whether they were breastfed themselves. In certain high risk groups breastfeeding can reduce the chances of developing this cancer by 50% in the mother and by 25% in the child.

We are also looking for Breastfeeding Champions to support the Charnwood BRAS. These Champions will receive some training so they are confidant to talk to breastfeeding mothers about breastfeeding benefits, myths and how to sign post people for more information. They can also help with PR and admin. Champions can be any adult, mums, dads, grandparents, anyone with or without children, anyone who believes in breastfeeding and want to help us promote it. We held a session on Friday 24th May 2013, and will be holding another session later in the year. Please call 0758 3041054 for more information or to register your interest.

Extended Breastfeeding Group – we have set up an Extended Breastfeeding Group to give support and advice to mums nursing older babies/toddlers and/or tandem feeding. If you would be interested in coming along to this group or want any more information then contact us via email or phone and leave your details.
